Description

Rio Amazonas Energia S.A., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Brazilian company Multiner S.A. (Grupo Bolognesi, 55%; Multiner FIP, 45%), was granted the authorization to build and operate a 85.4-MW diesel fueled power plant located in the state of Amazonas. The 30-year contract was signed with the regulatory agency ANEEL in October 2006. The power plant was named UTE Cristiano Rocha. The power plant commenced operations in November 2006, and it established a 20-year power purchase agreement to sell all its output to the Amazonas state electricity distribution company. A total of US$ 100 million (BRL 200 million) was invested in the power plant. In 2012, the sponsor began the expansion of the power plant adding more 50 MW to its capacity and the conversion to natural gas. The investment was estimated at US$ 62 million (BRL 121 million). The conversion process was expected to be concluded by April 2013.
