The Critical Minerals Infrastructure Fund (CMIF) provides up to $1.5 billion in federal funding through 2030 to support infrastructure projects that enable economic development of critical mineral deposits in Canada. As of early 2026, CMIF had committed support across 38 energy and transportation infrastructure projects spanning 19 critical mineral types, including lithium, cobalt, nickel, copper, and rare earth elements. Eligible projects include access road construction, grid connections, port capacity upgrades, and transportation corridors linking mining operations to processing hubs. The fund aims to transition from project-by-project infrastructure investment to multi-user corridor investment to reduce costs and environmental impact.
