Description | The project involved the construction of Cross Bay Boulevard, a 10-mile road connecting Elmhurst and the Rockaways, including the building of two large bridges across Jamaica Bay: the North Channel Bridge and the Cross Bay Bridge. The project also included widening Woodhaven Boulevard and laying new water mains. The Cross Bay Boulevard opened in 1925, and Woodhaven Boulevard was improved and renamed over time. The Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge replaced the original drawbridge in 1970, and the Joseph P. Addabbo Bridge replaced the North Channel Bridge in 1988. Select Bus Service was introduced on both boulevards in 2017. |
