Description
Description | "Since 2004, CROSSING EUROPE Film Festival gem. GmbH has carried out the annual film festival CROSSING EUROPE which devotes its program to idiosyncratic, contemporary and socio-political auteur cinema from Europe. Over 6 days the festival offers approx. 130 outstanding feature-length fiction, documentary and short films to a local cinema audience, festivalgoers from Austria and abroad as well as to 650 international film professionals (including 130 film guests). With its program selection the festival seeks to do justice to the diversity of European cinema, including a focus on films from countries with a low audiovisual production capacity. CROSSING EUROPE has always upheld the European idea and placed current socio-political developments in Europe in the foreground – whether in the film program, accompanying and follow-up events or the comprehensive youth program. Every year CROSSING EUROPE sets out to present European filmmakers to a broader audience and to distinguish their work with money and material prizes within a professional framework and in comfortable atmosphere. Since its first edition the vision of Austria’s second largest international film festival is clear: the best possible presentation of European cinema with young, idiosyncratic and contemporary films and the in-depth exchange with talents present on site. New forms of narrative or innovative artistic approaches play a substantial role, just as topical, socio-political themes and confrontation with European realities characterize the program. Additionally numerous follow-up screenings (""Crossing Europe goes...""), creating new audiences and community building, extended networking with other festivals (festival network „Moving Images Open Borders – MIOB“) and a successful implementation of sustainable and green festival organisation are part of CROSSING EUROPE’s festival DNA.
