Crystal Hill Solar Apiary Project

Urban Grid has launched a solar apiary at its Crystal Hill photovoltaic site in Halifax County, Virginia, integrating beekeeping and farming as part of its agrivoltaic programme. The apiary includes ten beehives with around 500,000 bees, producing over 400 pounds of honey annually. The site also supports sheep grazing for vegetation control. A multi-year pollinator research programme has been initiated in partnership with Siller Pollinator Company to study pollinator activity and plant diversity near the solar installation. The project aims to develop a replicable land management model combining solar energy production and agriculture.
