Blackshear Streetscape Phase III and Welcome Center: 200 SW Central Ave, Blackshear, Pierce County, GA. Located adjacent to the railroad tracks in downtown Blackshear, the Blackshear Depot is a masonry constructed building. The 6300 sq.ft. of the depot is divided into 2 main areas: (1) the front waiting room and office, where no changes will be made; (2) the freight room (3600 sq.ft.) currently being used for storage by the City of Fitzgerald. The latter area will become the welcome center. The freight room is a large open space with wood plank flooring and walls, exposed rafters, and scales used to weigh freighters. Improvements will include replacement of some pine planks on the floor, installation of lumber under floor to seal openings, wall insulation, repaint and replace missing exterior brick, replace exterior batten strips, painting, emergency exit signage, ADA ramp and handrails, and other signage.
