Côte d’Ivoire - Azito Power Project

The Azito Power Project is designed to enhance the country’s independence vis-a-vis hydroelectric power and therefore provide better control over the level of electricity production. It should help meet the expected future electricity supply-demand gap. The proposed project involves the construction of (i) a natural gas fuelled power plant, near the village of Azito, (ii) a sub-station adjacent to the plant and a 225 kV transmission line to connect the power plant with an existing sub-station of the national grid in Abobo and finally (iii) a gas pipeline from Vridi to Azito following the existing right of way (ROW) of the 225 kV and 90 kV lines already in place. The project is to build, own, operate and after 20 years transfer to the State of Cote d’Ivoire, a two open-ended cycle gas turbine power generation facility with an installed capacity of 285 MW in Azito, near Abidjan. The electricity should be supplied to the private concessionaire of the national public utility service for generation, transmission, distribution, and import and export of electricity (Compagnie Ivoirienne d’Electiricité).
