Description

China Three Gorges Corporation was planning the development of the 49.5MW Jhimpir Wind Farm, Jhimpir, Pakistan. The project company was named Three Gorges First Wind Farm Project Company, incorporated in Pakistan. The project developer awarded an EPC contract to two Chinese companies in May 2011: China Huashui Development Corporation (CHDC) and China International Water & Electric Corporation (CWE). The EPC contracts are to install wind turbines produced by Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology (SHE:002202, HKG:2208), 26.7% owned by CTGC. The project followed an MOU signed in December 2010, foreseeing 2GW of wind power and 300MW of solar plants in Pakistan. The equipment supply contract was reconfirmed in December 2011, indicating that 33 turbines of the type GW77/1500 were to be supplied, using high-temperature Permanent Magnet Direct Drive (PMDD). CTGCP owned 26.7% of Goldwind. Construction started in January 2012. Total investment was estimated at $130 million.
