Culvert Replacement on Chisasibi Road

Chisasibi Road has 154 culverts of varying diameters. The majority of these are galvanized corrugated steel pipes, the commissioning of which dates back to the 1970s. Such culverts have a useful life of 40 years. To date, 25 culvert sites have a deficient or critical condition class, which requires the replacement of 30 culverts (Some sites have more than one culvert). The Chisasibi road is 90 km long. It is the only access route to the community of the Cree nation of Chisasibi with a population of approximately 6,000. Completion of this project will ensure the sustainability of the only road link leading to this community by reducing the risk of collapsing deficient culverts and the risk of road closure. This will result in greater food security since the transport of food to this community will not be likely to be interrupted. This road infrastructure will therefore be improved compared to its initial state.
