Description

Description

The current project follows the CCEI objectives according to Article 3 of the Regulation (EU) 2021/1077, the policy priorities for the CCEI MAWP 2021-2022, and the themes and priorities of the CCEI Call. The objectives of this project are to properly equip important external borders of the Union and to contribute to the facilitation of legitimate trade and intelligent, risk-based supervision of supply chains. The project activities aim to provide adequate and effective customs controls while ensuring both safety and security. The scope of our proposal has been carefully selected to fully reflect the identified existing performance gaps and urgent needs of customs control equipment at 18 Bulgarian BCPs. The equipment included in our proposal is a carefully selected collection of high- and low-energy X-Ray scanners for enhanced customs inspection, all of them eligible for funding. The implementation of the project will bring valuable benefits to the protection of the financial interests of the Union and EU citizens by detecting illegal and unsafe goods before they enter the EU while facilitating trade. The customs risks and threats dealt with under the project outline the changing operating environment and address all the five building blocks by ensuring consistency with CUP reports and setting relevant and realistic targets of the project indicators. The expected overall results of our project are: (i) a better balance between customs control and trade, (ii) trade facilitation, (iii) enhanced focus on “high-risk” movements of goods and passengers, (iv) reduced release times, (v) improved compliance with laws and regulations, and (vi) a solid foundation for more efficient revenue collection.
