Description

Description

This active transportation project consists of the construction of a new series of fully accessible bike-paths, which in total is 7.6 kilometers of protected and accessible cycling network that will connect to the City’s transit system. The project also involves the improvement of up to ten (10) major intersections along the bike-paths to allow for continuous and more direct access to the City of Guelph’s transportation network. More specifically, the project is aimed at building a segment of the City of Guelph’s strategic cycling master plan that will build direct access to and between two major public transit hubs: Guelph Central Station and the University of Guelph Bus Loop. The new bike-paths will meet the highest published accessibility standard in the province, whereby the active transportation network can be universally accessed. The new bike-paths are expected to enhance the capacity of the City of Guelph’s public transit system by extending its access (“first-mile and last-mile”). The paths will also connect the City of Guelph’s Active Transportation Network and public transit system. The connections to the Transit system are expected to contribute to an increase in ridership as this connection will allow seamless transfer from the active transportation paths to the bus.
