Description | The Cypress Ditch Improvements Project is a $110 million flood mitigation project in Bellaire, Texas. It aims to expand the stormwater capacity of Cypress Ditch by 60% by making side slopes steeper and reconstructing the lined portion of the channel between South Rice Avenue and Brays Bayou. The project also includes improving the natural channel section between Chimney Rock Road and South Rice Avenue and constructing two stormwater detention ponds to slow down water flow towards Brays Bayou. The south detention pond will be built on the 13-acre Beechnut Tract acquired from Houston, and the north detention pond will be located near the Southwest Wastewater Treatment Plant. The project is currently in the design and planning phase, with construction starting in 2025. |
