D4/R7 Highway PPP project

The Slovak Government has recently undertaken to construct two new sections of the D4 Highway, forming part of the Trans-European Transport Network (“TEN-T”), and three new sections of the R7 Expressway to ease access to Bratislava, the Slovak capital, improving a key road corridor. A Special Purpose Vehicle (the “Concessionaire”), to which the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Regional Development of the Slovak Republic (the “Granting Authority” or the “GA”) will issue an over 30-year long Concession Agreement for the design, build, operation and maintenance of the D4/R7 Expressway Project (the “Project”) will be selected in an open tender. The D4 Highway sections included in the Project, Jarovce to Ivanka Sever and Ivanka Sever to Rača, are part of the comprehensive TEN-T programme. Together with the R7 Expressway, they will provide connection between the D1 and D2 Highways in Slovakia. The relevant D4 Highway sections are 27km long and include 8 interchanges and 55 overpasses including a sequence of 5 bridges with an aggregate length of 3.263km (each with overall spans of between 465m and 896m) over Danube river. The R7 Expressway will connect the D4 and D1 Highways and will provide access to the city of Bratislava from the south-east. It will also improve connection between the industrial zones and urban districts. Three sections of the R7 Expressway, Prievoz to Ketelec, Ketelec to Dunajská Lužná and Dunajská Lužná to Holice, over a total length of 32km, form part of the Project. These include 5 interchanges and 29 overpasses. The capital cost of the Project is currently estimated to be approximately EUR 1.3 billion. The construction period is projected to start in spring 2016 with completion expected within four years. There is a Project Summary Document available for this project.
