Description

Description	The project is designed to promote economic growth and alleviate poverty in an impoverished region. The project will help address major infrastructure and resource constraints faced by Hainan province. The project includes two main categories of components, power and agriculture/resettlement. The main power components comprise: (a) construction of a gravity dam of roller compacted concrete; (b) construction of an underground powerhouse, equipped with four 60MW generators; (c) erection of 36km of 220kV transmission lines; (d) installation of a computerized load dispatch system; and (e) technical assistance and training in project design, power system planning and tariff studies. The major agriculture/resettlement components comprise: (a) construction of a 16km long High Main Canal; (b) resettlement of 23,800 people in Dongfang and Ledong counties; (c) provision of agricultural support and environmental management services; and (d) technical assistance for the preparation of the agricultural development plan.
