Description | In 2000, the construction of the Dahej Liquid Chemical Port was completed after its announcement in 1996 at a total cost of US$203 million. The port was constructed in Dahej by Kvaerner Construction in the western state of Gujarat and was designed exclusively for the export and import of chemicals. The port was inaugurated on January 25, 2001, as it opened for operations. The 30-year BOT concession was awarded to the consortium, Gujarat Chemical Port Company, consisting of the Indian Petrochemical Corporation Limited (IPCL) (30%), Gujarat Maritime Board (12.5%)and five Gujarat state-owned companies (57.5%). Financial closure was achieved on August 15, 1999. The port is financed primarily via private placement debt (US $31MM), sponsors equity (US $41.5MM) and project finance syndicated loans (US $131MM).
