Description | The Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) is an oil pipeline transporting up to 750,000 barrels of oil per day from the Bakken shale oil basin in North Dakota to Illinois. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has allowed the pipeline to continue operating under stricter environmental and safety conditions, including enhanced leak detection, water monitoring systems, and independent reviews of pipeline safety. The decision does not authorize construction of new pipeline segments beyond the existing crossing under Lake Oahe on the Missouri River. |
