Description
Description | Dalian Container Terminal (DCT) (comprised of Dalian Port Authority (51%) and Singapore-Dalian Port Investments (SDPI) (49%)) started operations in July 1996. The joint venture contract for the port project was signed in March 1996. Under the contract, DCT will own, develop, manage and operate three container berths in Dalian's Dayaowan Container Terminal. The three-berth container terminal is, in effect, a consolidation of the area's three previous container facilities: Westport, Xiangliujiao and Dayaowan Container Terminal where the venture is now located - 50 kilometers outside the city. The company invested US$ 30 million in new quay cranes, yard cranes, and Computer Integrated Terminal Operations System 1 (CITOS 1) to further strengthen its operational capability. The total Singaporean investment in the project was reportedly US$ 480 million. Dalian Container Terminal handled approximately 460,000 TEUs in 1997. Three container berths were currently in operation while a fourth was near completion. The terminal was expected to operate 5 berths by 1999. Sembawang Maritime & Logistics, subsidiary of SembCorp Industries, AIG Asian Infrastructure Fund and Jurong Town International each originally held a 9.8% equity in SDPI. Sembawang Marine & Logistics entered into a sale and purchase agreement with PSA China, 70.6%-owner of SDPI, in November 1998 to dispose of its equity interest for US$ 10.5 million. Maersk Line (Denmark), shipping company later acquired an undisclosed share from PSA Corp. None None |
