Dallas City Hall Abandonment and Redevelopment Plan

planned

The City Council of Dallas is planning to investigate the benefits of selling the iconic Dallas City Hall building to developers, who are expected to demolish it. The plan includes determining the costs of moving the city government to a downtown office tower. This is driven by a deferred maintenance bill that has escalated significantly, redevelopment of the adjacent convention center, and the Dallas Mavericks' desire for a new downtown arena. There has been little public consultation on this plan, and concerns have been raised about the transparency and economic sense of abandoning the already paid-for building.
