Description
Description | The Dallas Eviction Advocacy Center (DEAC), led by Mark Melton, implemented a system to represent every tenant in Dallas County eviction courts by hiring a roster of lawyers to intercept tenants at the county's ten eviction courts. The project aimed to correct injustices in eviction proceedings by providing legal representation to tenants, funded initially through private fundraising and later supported by a $1.3 million annual grant from Dallas County to double DEAC's funding. This expansion allowed DEAC to fully staff eviction courts with attorneys to represent all tenants. |
