Description

This project involves the construction of a Second container terminal in Damietta Port, located in Damietta Governorate, Egypt. The special purpose vehicle for this initiative is the Damietta Alliance Container Terminal, established on the basis of a 30-year build, operate and transfer concession agreement. The sponsors and shareholders are the Hapag-Lloyd Damietta GmbH (39%), the Eurogate Damietta GmbH (29.5%), the Contship Damietta Srl (29.5%), the Middle East Logistics & Consultants Group (1%) and the Ship & C.R.E.W. Egypt S.A.E. (1%). The planned throughput capacity per year is 3.3 million TEUs. The total project cost is $665m. A significant portion - $455m will be provided with a loan package co-financed by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank with $100m, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) with a $125m loan and a risk management products in form of interest rate swaps with a loan equivalent of $10m, the EBRD with $125m, and loans from the KfW and the Agence Francaise de Developpment (AFD).
