The plan includes investing about $46 billion between 2026 and 2028 to increase refining capacity to 2.1 million barrels per day, expanding the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lagos to 1.4 million barrels per day, and developing a new 700,000-barrel-per-day refinery in Lamu, Kenya. The Kenyan project has progressed beyond planning with site selection completed, soil testing underway, and engineering work commenced. The expansion aims to reduce dependence on imported fuels, strengthen regional energy security, and support trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area. |
