The project aims to reduce reliance on imported petroleum products and deepen intra-African trade. It is undergoing financial restructuring with a $4 billion senior syndicated term loan, including a $2.5 billion underwriting by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank). The refinery began operations in February 2024 and plans to expand capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day and increase polypropylene production significantly. |
