Description

Description

In June 2009, Consorcio Coriport signed a 20-year concession contract to operate and expand Daniel Obuder Airport in the city of Liberia. Expansion works were estimated at approximately US $34 million. Coriport was comprised of MMM Aviation Group [Canada], Houston Airport Systems with [USA, 45%], and Costa Rican companies Emperador Pez Espada, Brad & Tod Corporation and Cocobolo Inversiones. The share of MMM Group and the Costa Rican companies was not clear at the time of concession signing, although the original consortium, had MMM Group with 57% of the shares, HAS with 27% and the Costa Rican Companies with 6% each. The project involved the construction of a two-level, 22,900m2 facility that would allow the airport to handle 1,500 passengers at a given time and increase the airport's capacity by 67%. The contract was awarded in October 2008. HAS was the only firm to presented its proposal, but it exceeded the Costa Rican government’s minimum request that the new terminal be completed within eight months by stating that it would complete the terminal in six months. In October 2010, the Inter-American Investment Corportation lent US $7.95 million to Coriport S.A, the project company. In March 2015, the IIC approved a US$ 36 million loan to help Coriport S.A. to move up by two years the timetable for the capital investments needed for certain construction projects and equipment for the terminal, as well as expansion of the main boarding gates. Shareholding has changed and it is unclear what share each party has, excpet that HAS has 45% of the SPV.
