The project "kultKIT: German-Danish Encounters" is a joint contribution to the success of the merging of the German-Danish border region over the dividing Fehmarnbelt. Behind the pro-ject is the vision that after the opening of the Fehmarnbelt tunnel, much of the language and culture borders will have disappeared, and citizens will be able to make the most of the ad-vantages of the border region in terms of living, working, having an education and participat-ing in cultural and leisure activities on both sides of the border. In the Fehmarnbelt region, the sea is still a very concrete barrier between the two countries, hampering cooperation and development in the eastern German-Danish border region. The project intends to address this challenge by financing cross-border encounters and joint ac-tivities in the areas of culture, leisure, education and sport. The goals of the project are to: - increase intercultural understanding of citizens. - reduce language and culture barriers. - develop a border region inclusivity. - develop sustainable structures in German-Danish cooperation. - show the border region as an attractive place to live and work across the national border. The project "kultKIT: German-Danish encounters" has a special focus on activities between the people in the border region, which as a result cause mental changes in the citizens. The project wants to build a mental bridge between the two countries even before the physical connection is realized. We will facilitate joint activities, exchange of experiences and inter-personal encounters in people-to-people projects, practice meetings, workshops and events where German and Danish children, adolescents and adults work together, get to know each other and reduce prejudice. The planned cross-border cooperation is necessary to facilitate encounters between people, which help to reduce language and culture barriers in the border region and build a mental bridge. The new feature of the project is the strong focus on encounters between citizens as the administrative co-operation structures are further developed and the German-Danish cooperation in the municipal administrations and at the political level in the two countries is widely anchored.
