Romania and Bulgaria have the highest share of people facing the risk of poverty and social exclusion within the EU. The Danube Social Service and Education Cluster targets the significant mismatch between skills provided by vocational training in both countries and labour market demands. The DSSEC START project aimed at enhancing the vocational training quality, the access to lifelong learning, the general education of disadvantaged groups (in particular Roma children) and the access to social services for children and older people. Two national workshops addressing “Danube Social Services & Education Cluster in Action” and a transnational conference (“Danube Social Services and Education Cluster – bottom-up perspectives on EUSDR for social inclusion and poverty reduction”) were organised with the support of START. The project’s main output was the set-up of a transnational cluster of social NGOs, which presents a common position paper (including national case studies) : http://socialngonetwork.eu/en/.
