Data Center Development in Caldwell County

There are at least nine data centers planned in Caldwell County, Texas. Community members have expressed concerns about water consumption, electricity usage, and health impacts related to these data centers. The county has limited power to stop the developments, with authority mainly over drainage, engineering, driveway permits, and septic tanks. The developments are occurring amid extreme drought conditions in the area. Skybox Datacenters is building a facility in nearby Round Rock, Williamson County, using closed loop air systems to recycle water, although some data centers use evaporative cooling which consumes more water. Community members are calling for more transparency and a slowdown in development to better understand the impacts.
