Data Centers Development in Southeast Georgia

planned

Local leaders across southeast Georgia's coastal plains and industrial corridors are preparing for the potential arrival and development of data centers. These facilities house IT infrastructure such as servers and data storage systems. While no formal proposals have been submitted yet, counties like Bulloch have enacted moratoriums to study and draft zoning regulations for data centers, focusing on protecting agricultural land and requiring infrastructure standards like closed-loop cooling systems to reduce water usage. The industry is seen as a fast-growing sector with potential economic benefits including significant property tax revenue, though concerns about environmental impact, water usage, and long-term viability remain.
