Description

Description

After the Mauritian telecommunications market was liberalized in December 2002, the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (ICTA) of Mauritius issued 14 telecommunications licenses – 10 international long distance licenses, 1 fixed line licenses, 1 cellular license, 1 internet license, and 1 cellular license. Data Communications Limited (DCL) of Mauritius was issued an international long distance license in December 2003. The fifteen-year license required the operator to provide direct connectivity to international telecommunications hubs within three years of the contract, or by December 2006. The operator was also responsible for paying US$170,400 (5 million rupees) for the license. Data Communications Limited, founded in 1997, previously served corporate clients in Mauritius. On January 5, 2004, DCL started operations as an International long distance call provider under the brand EASI, but the company's services appeared more focused on providing broadband internet and IT related services. Since this operator has not any subscribers for the last 5 years, the project was updated as 'cancelled' in the database per January 2013 in the FY14 update.
