Data Protection in the EU

In today's world, there is the digitalization of processes in all spheres of life. The COVID-19 pandemic further highlighted the importance of digitalization. That is why it is especially important to protect the personal data of citizens who use digital services. Also COVID-19 pandemic unveils the role of universities in addressing the data protection gap. In 2018 the European Union entered into force the GDPR, which regulates the rights of citizens at the legislative level, as well as the responsibilities of the parties who have access to their personal data. It is extremely important to disseminate knowledge about this regulation, especially among students majoring in IT, who develop information systems and software that processes the personal data of EU citizens. The DataProEU project aims to deliver EU experience in data protection technology and GDPR implementation at LPNU and contribute to the development of innovation culture at Lviv Polytechnic National University (LPNU). As a part of the project, we will develop a set of courses in Data Protection in the EU for bachelors, masters, Ph.D., and life-long learning students of Computer Science and Information Technology. Such an approach will contribute to building the vital link between Lviv Polytechnic National University and business, developing a culture of working with personal data, and modernization of the labor market in Ukraine.
