Data4 Algae Growth Heat Recovery System

Data4 has unveiled a new heat recovery system that uses waste heat from its data center at the Marcoussis campus near Paris to grow algae. The system is a proof-of-concept module installed on the roof of the data center, using microalgae with high absorption capacity. Heat and water from the data center cooling system are piped into the module, with CO2 injected to enable photosynthesis and algae growth. The system is closed-loop and aims to capture CO2 and produce algae for uses such as biofuel, animal feed, and dietary supplements.
