The David Geffen Galleries is a new building at LACMA designed by Swiss architect Peter Zumthor. It is the first project built in the United States by Zumthor and is his largest project to date, with 347,000 square feet spread across 3.5 acres. The building features a vast open floor plan with 110,000 square feet of gallery space, spanning a major boulevard like a freeway overpass. The project includes more than two million cubic feet of concrete and cost $750 million, with $125 million funded by local taxes. The building is elevated 30 feet above the ground, allowing views of the museum campus and city beyond, and integrates artworks and outdoor spaces in a unique layout.
