David Geffen Galleries at the new LACMA

The David Geffen Galleries is a new building designed by Peter Zumthor in collaboration with Skidmore, Owings & Merrill as the permanent home for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). The building is a 274-meter-long horizontal structure of glass and concrete with approximately 110,000 square feet of space, housing the museum's extensive permanent collection of 155,000 objects spanning 6,000 years of world history. The design includes galleries with varied scales and lighting, public art spaces, educational and public program pavilions, a theater, shops, and restaurants, all integrated with the surrounding environment.
