Dawson City Recreation Centre - Construction

A new recreation center is planned for Dawson City to replace their existing ice rink and curling sheets. The current facility is at the end of its service life, with structural concerns caused by melting permafrost. The new recreation center will be built at a new location, outside of the permafrost zone of the municipality. The facility will provide residents and visitors to Dawson with a variety of recreation opportunities, year-round. The amenities of the new facility are planned to include: an NHL sized skating rink, 2 curling sheets, a multipurpose half-sized gymnasium, an indoor playground, a fitness suite, a social heart (circulation space) with access to the canteen and commercial kitchen, and storage and office space for recreation staff. The total area of the facility will be about 5330m2, with external ice plant and mechanical systems.
