Dawson Creek - 102nd Avenue Crossing Replacement Project
Sector: Bridge • Location: British Columbia, Canada
Source: Infrastructure Canada
This project consists of the replacement of the 102nd Avenue creek crossing located within the City of Dawson Creek boundaries. It is proposed to replace the existing undersized culverts, which are prone to flooding, with a clear span bridge. The design includes a span bridge across the creek with two lanes and a pedestrian sidewalk on the south side. The channel will be modified by approx. 150m u

Description
Description | This project consists of the replacement of the 102nd Avenue creek crossing located within the City of Dawson Creek boundaries. It is proposed to replace the existing undersized culverts, which are prone to flooding, with a clear span bridge. The design includes a span bridge across the creek with two lanes and a pedestrian sidewalk on the south side. The channel will be modified by approx. 150m upstream and/or downstream of the crossing. Instream work includes lowering the channel bed, widening the watercourse, and flattening the slopes. Riprap will be placed on the banks to prevent scour and erosion. The design drawings for the new creek crossing show the site extents and the proposed bridge. The new 102nd Avenue bridge spans 26 meters and will accommodate two (2) 6 meter traffic lanes with a protected pedestrian sidewalk on both sides of the bridge that will satisfy current design loading, geometric and safety standards. The existing water and storm mains that cross the creek at this location will be replaced to accommodate the newly widened creek cross section. Catchbasins will also be added to on each side of the bridge to divert stormwater from the road surface to storm outfalls near the creek. The new water line crossing will be directionally drilled underneath the river to minimize the work in the creek bed and for ease of installation. The project also includes channel modification, erosion protection, and re-vegetation upstream and downstream of the crossing. The erosion protection consists of 50 kilogram rip-rap on the banks of the creek from the bed to the high water elevation. Planting includes live stakes, planted trees, shrubs and seeding to stabilize disturbed areas. |
