The Telecommunication Project for Ethiopia will assist in financing a program to expand and improve telecommunication services in Ethiopia. Currently, telephone and telegraph service is very limited and of poor quality due to the lack of competent personnel, management, and adequate equipment. In order to promote economic development, the telecommunication systems must by improved. The Road Rehabilitation Project, and Industrial and Agricultural Development Bank Project for Ethiopia consist of two loans. The first, road rehabilitation, will finance the acquisition of equipment, supplies and services to repair parts of the Ethiopian road system, as well as establishing an improved system of road maintenance. The Industrial and Agricultural Development Bank loan Project will assist in the funding of a development bank empowered to make loans or other investments to finance project to increase agricultural and industrial production. The objectives of the project are: 1) to build up optimum, efficient, balanced, and modern plants; and 2) to develop for the plants an operating organization that will insure continuing efficient operation and essential expansion. To accomplish these goals, the project will extend and improve three existing systems, Addis Ababa telephone system, provincial system, and the international system. It will also establish a suitable engineering, construction, and operating organization and provide adequate training programs for its personnel. These improvements will expand and rehabilitate the telecommunication systems in Ethiopia in order to provide better and more reliable service and promote economic development.
