Description
Description | "In Europe, countries like Belgium and Italy have thousands of sign language users, but only a small percentage are licensed in dedicated sports clubs due to low visibility and inadequate infrastructure. Most deaf athletes participate in mainstream clubs, where coaches lack training in deafness-specific needs. This creates a gap, limiting their sports potential. Moreover, training programs are not adapted to the unique challenges deaf athletes face, such as communication on the field. Without specialized training for coaches, deaf athletes struggle to progress, especially in high-level sports. # Objectives and activities The project aims to create an academy focused on training coaches to better support deaf athletes. Key activities include: - International Roundtable: experts and deaf athletes will collaborate to create accessible training resources for coaches. - Technology Solutions: developing tools (like light signals or vibrating bracelets) to improve communication on sports fields. - Awareness Videos: producing videos to educate the public and coaches on the barriers faced by deaf athletes. - Seminars and Conferences: raising awareness and promoting inclusive training practices within sports federations. # Expected impact This project aims to improve the inclusion of deaf athletes by equipping coaches with the necessary tools. It will help increase participation, enhance performance, and promote the Deaflympics. The training model can be replicated across Europe, ensuring long-term sustainability and creating a network of professionals committed to deaf athlete inclusion. " |
