The system supports electricity transfer from northern to southern Germany to alleviate grid imbalances and congestion, while also generating market-based revenues. Five 50-MW battery units will be installed near substations in Gersthofen, Irsingen, Memmingen, Oberottmarshausen, and Vöhringen, connected to LVN's 110-kilovolt distribution network. The project is unique in allowing limited market participation alongside grid-serving use to improve economic efficiency. |
