Description

Description

This project will complete the construction of an independent water main (150 mm diameter Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) water main 400 meters long) and separation of the municipal services along DeCew Road from the in-plant service water system. This will increase the security of supply to nearby residents and improve the flexibility when work is required on the water treatment plant system. The DeCew Falls Water Treatment Plant located in St. Catharines provides treated water to approximately 181,500 people and has a rated capacity of 227,300 m³/day. The plant was constructed in three phases, starting with Plant 1 in 1925 and concluding with Plant 3 in 1974. This legacy construction approach has created an operational problem that affects the plants routine maintenance, and the nearby homes (DeCew Road). These homes are serviced directly from the Water Treatment Plant service water system. This causes complications when there is work required at the plant.
