The Deep Blue Project is an integrated national security and waterways protection infrastructure established in 2021 to combat piracy, sea robbery, illegal fishing, oil theft, and other maritime crimes within Nigeria's territorial waters and across the Gulf of Guinea. The project involves deployment of integrated air, land, and sea assets supported by advanced surveillance and rapid response capabilities, including special mission aircraft, helicopters, vessels, unmanned aerial vehicles, interceptor boats, and armored patrol vehicles. The project has led to significant security improvements, including zero piracy incidents in Nigeria's territorial waters for four years and a reduction of piracy incidents across the Gulf of Guinea by over 70%.
