Deep Sea Energy, an Australian startup, aims to build the first commercial ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) project in the world, potentially in Malaysia or Australia. The project plans to scale up from a 1 MW prototype tested by the Korean Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO) to a 100 MW commercial system. The technology uses the temperature difference between warm surface water and cold deep sea water to generate electricity, with potential applications in green hydrogen production.
