Description
Description | Defend Iceland is a unique, nationwide bug bounty platform with the ultimate goal of including every Icelandic organisation and company in scope. The Defend Iceland project is led and developed by SYNDIS, the leading cybersecurity company in Iceland, and run in collaboration with the Icelandic Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IS) and the Icelandic Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation. Defend Iceland aims to accelerate bug bounty uptake for SMEs and governmental institutions in Iceland by providing an innovative bug bounty platform that eliminates common barriers that have so far prevented rapid uptake of such solutions. It will not require an upfront cost for enrolling, and furthermore will provide automated attack surface mapping technology to scalably create bug bounty policies as well as the ability to identify common security issues. Iceland is an ideal testing ground for a project of this scale. In addition to short communication lines between government and industry, the nation's digital infrastructure and services reflect a microcosm of EU member states due to several factors, including population size, high level of digital literacy, and geographical isolation. Defend Iceland has already received letters of intent for cooperation from key stakeholders, indicating a strong shift in the cybersecurity culture and readiness to employ innovative and cost-effective ways to improve cyber resilience that eventually can be transposed into a European context. In addition to being a bug bounty platform with a unique incentive model, Defend Iceland will be the centre of public security knowledge and awareness. Its aim is to change cybersecurity culture by bringing information about security vulnerabilities to the surface and serving as a training platform for companies, software engineers, and the public. Once the value of a nationwide bug bounty platform has been proven in Iceland, the project's goal is to expand to other EU member states. |
