DeKalb County Data Center Regulations and Proposed Ban

planned

DeKalb County residents strongly oppose data centers and are demanding an outright ban instead of regulations. The county commissioners are considering regulations and a temporary moratorium on new data centers or expansions, with a vote on proposed regulations scheduled for January. The proposed ordinance would allow large data centers in industrial areas under special land use permits, with requirements such as a 500-foot buffer from homes and parks. The data center industry is rapidly expanding in the Atlanta area, with concerns about power usage, water consumption, and impacts on property values and infrastructure.
