Description

Description

Delhi has unveiled its EV Policy 2.0, allocating INR2 billion (US$21 million) to shift from upfront subsidies to a scrappage-linked incentive model to accelerate the phase-out of older petrol and diesel vehicles and sustain EV adoption. The policy includes incentives for private electric vehicle buyers, support for retrofitting ICE vehicles to EVs, and a 100% waiver on road tax and registration fees for EVs until March 2030 with a price cap. A significant portion of the INR83.74 billion transport budget is earmarked for electrifying public mobility, including plans to induct 6,130 electric buses in FY2026-27, targeting 7,500 buses by March 2027 and 12,000 electric buses by 2029. Charging infrastructure expansion includes a mandate for all vehicle dealerships to install at least one public charging point, aiming for 18,000 charging stations by end-2026.
