Gong's intervention answers the challenges recognized in our strategic plan which convenes European Democracy Action Plan, as well as the area of concern of the Rule of Law reports and other EU policies. Gong is focusing on enhancing democratic political culture of citizens and the elite, with strong, transparent and efficient institutions that enable participation, making liberal democracy stable. We have a direct basis in EU policies regarding free and fair elections and in 2022 we are advocating for more democratic elections by necessary adjustment of the geographical area of constituencies which are currently outside the legal margins. Since the legality of Croatian elections is at stake, Gong is preparing for a Constitutional complaint. Trust in the election process is further skewed by social networks and news media, so there is great need to coordinate efforts on addressing disinformation, especially while at risk of external attempts to undermine democracy. Awareness-raising and educational campaigns on risks for democracy due to Big tech companies' influence on new technologies and their impact on democratic values in the EU and Croatia are planned with focus on AI, Big tech, Biometric Surveillance and challenges in countering disinformation campaigns online. Special approach will be taken into account when delivering the campaign to women and youth. Activities connected to EU citizenship and identity address strengthening citizenship education and contribution to democratic engagement and civic participation of youth, teachers, CSOs and citizens. Given the rise in populism, it is vital more than ever to assume a basis in European values and carry out all activities while promoting and leading by example in practice European solidarity, diversity, tolerance and mutual understanding.
