Description
Description | The Democratic Digital Commons project is a pathbreaking project to involve groups at risk of discrimination from Artificial Intelligence in discussing EU policies to promote safe AI and develop a Citizens Charter for Democracy Artificial Intelligence. Through engaging Roma, migrants, LGBTQI+, women's groups and digitally disadvantaged in popular assemblies on the risks and potentials of Artificial Intelligence as it is used in policy making, public services, policing, social media, and business, the project will enable communities often not involved or educated on AI technologies to understand how artificial intelligence is already involved in making decisions concerning their lives, and explore together how AI could be developed, used, monitored and governed using democratic principles. The project uses interdisciplinary methodologies including the use of people assemblies as a form of improving democratic health and citizen participation; digital literacy trainings as AI transparency mechanisms; artistic productions to increase accessibility of information & heighten dissemination. The project will develop a unique online educational resource for citizens to learn about Artificial Intelligence, and mobilise extensive scientific, legal and technical expertise to provide knowledge about this powerful technology. The project will also engage tech developers, policy makers, public officials using AI to deliver public services and artists to build a powerful coalition to promote an EU model of democratic artificial intelligence which helps to overcome discrimination rather than reinforce it. Activities will take place in Romania, Greece, Czech Republic, Portugal, Hungary and online, and people from over 15 EU countries will be involved in these assemblies. The project interacts with high visibility public events such as award ceremonies for technology, and digital and art festivals, to ensure a wide public visibility, reaching over 2500 direct participants. |
