Description

The "Geographically Integrated REDD Pilot Project EcoMakala +" will help achieve some of the CBFF's goals of reducing the rate of deforestation and alleviating poverty. As a pilot project, the project will test the assumptions of the government's interim REDD + strategy, which is divided into four components and 14 programs in DRC's "Exploratory Analysis of the REDD + Potential". November 2009. Indeed, the lessons learned from the implementation of this project, combined with those of other similar projects, will help develop a national REDD strategy that is realistic, credible and operational, as based on practical experience. The project has the following components: (i) Forest management and sustainable practice; (ii) Ecological and socio-economic monitoring and reference data; (iii) Advantages of carbon markets and payment of ecosystem services; (iv) Project management. The duration is two and a half years and its total cost is estimated at 2,495 million euros.
