Description

The proposed operation is a Forest Investment Programme (FIP) Grant of 21.5 million US$ to the Democratic Republic of Congo to finance the Integrated REDD+ Project in the Mbuji-Mayi/Kananga and Kisangani Basins (PIREDD/MBKIS). It will address the main drivers of deforestation and forest degradation, related in particular to land tenure security, agriculture, forestry and biomass energy. The project relies on land-use planning and Payment for Environmental Services (PES) as the main implementation modalities. The project activities will be implemented through in-kind PES based on the communities’ compliance with the agreed upon land use plans. Project duration will be five years.
