Democratic Republic of Congo - Sustainable and Innovative Management and Exploitation of Forest Resources (GEDIRF)

The "Sustainable and Innovative Management and Exploitation of Forest Resources" project proposes to conduct studies and multidisciplinary actions in a pilot area to solve the various problems related to land rights and the use of natural resources, to develop alternative economic activities based on non-timber forest products (NWFPs), to develop improved community management mechanisms and to introduce renewable energy technologies (TERs) into the DRC's MLW landscape. The duration of this phase is 2 years. The output of the project will be that the Participatory Land Use Planning (KUPP) strategy for K7 be adopted and implemented; a strategic document for the development of a participatory management plan for a pilot community forest be developed; that capacities to access the values of forest goods and services and renewable energy be strengthened and improved and that pilot income-generating activities be created benefiting poor people living in K7 and MLW.
