Description
Description | The main objective of the LIFE HYDROGRAPH project is to scale up and demonstrate Graphmatech’s unique solution to massively reduce hydrogen gas emissions from storage and transport of hydrogen (up to 80%), enabling the hydrogen economy. Hydrogen technologies could eliminate 10% of today’s greenhouse-gas emissions by 2050, which can be seen as a crucial and lucrative opportunity. The challenge is that hydrogen is not easy to store as it needs to be under high-pressures and not many materials are impermeable to hydrogen gas itself. The development of novel and innovative tank concepts, including their materials, is therefore necessary, to be able to integrate hydrogen drive systems. The LIFE HYDROGRAPH project is the first of its kind that will demonstrate an effective, scalable and low-cost solution to produce polymer-graphene composites affordable for use in type IV composite pressure vessels and pipes for storage and transport of hydrogen. The global environmental benefits from a widespread use of the innovative concept are huge, leading to reduced hydrogen loss of up to 6,826 ton/year, a reduced cost due to lost hydrogen of up to 34,130 kEuro/year and reduced CO2 equivalents of 75,086 tons/year. The LIFE HYDROGRAPH project aims to build up a pilot facility (5-10% of full scale) and full operating conditions in order to validate the production process at an industrially relevant scale able to produce high quality polymer-graphene composites and end products for tests with four (4) potential customers in Sweden and France. This pilot approach will be a crucial part of replicating and scaling the technology to other sites in Europe and globally. Project will help the EU to significantly reduce hydrogen emissions in the energy storage and transport sectors, and hence enable the hydrogen economy. With LIFE funding, our innovative technology will be ready for market implementation much faster than otherwise. |
