Description | Denver is undertaking a nearly $1 billion makeover involving more than 500 traffic-calming projects across the city. The effort aims to improve safety, walkability, and public transit by reducing space for vehicle traffic and expanding sidewalks, bike lanes, and dedicated bus lanes. The projects include overhauls of multiple arterials with vehicle lane reductions, sidewalk widening, and bus priority signal adjustments. A major $280 million Bus Rapid Transit reconstruction of East Colfax Avenue is scheduled for completion next year. The overall effort is funded by DOTI's $890 million annual budget, Colorado Department of Transportation, federal grants, and $441 million in voter-approved bond debt. The projects are mostly in planning and design stages and expected to be completed by 2032. |
